Design and ergonomics
The Acer Predator XB271HU is an excellent monitor with a small and stylish stand. Not everyone likes design because of its player-inspired aesthetics. Here the red parts of the board stand out against the Predator logo on the front. Its wide base prevents it from moving and swinging. The top and bottom edges are smooth, which is useful when installing multiple monitors. The screen looks a little bulky from the side.
On the front of the ergonomic monitor you can rotate the screen 30 degrees in each direction while simultaneously adjusting the inclination by 40 degrees (5 degrees to the front and 35 degrees to the back). You can also adjust the height by 150 mm (5.9). The base is 45 centimetres wide and about 28 centimetres deep. There are 100 x 1000 mm holes for VESA mounting.
The DisplayPort is used for 1440p at 165 Hz, plus an additional HDMI connection that provides an output up to 60 Hz with (2650 X 1440). Quality
The Acer Predator XB271HU is equipped with an Acer Optronics M270DAN0.26 8-bit IPS panel with white LED backlight (W-LED). There is no flickering of the screen and no inconvenience during operation. Gamma was about 2.0 and 2.1, but there was no evidence of leaching during gambling or other activities. The black and white values were normal, but not perfect.
When the monitor is first connected to the standard settings, it uses a standard image profile that sets the color temperature to warm (6500K), gamma to 2.2, brightness to 80, contrast to 50 and saturation to 100, while other settings such as blue light, dark gain, adaptive contrast and sRGB are disabled. If you change one of these options, the profile immediately changes from Default to Custom. The other parameters of the company profile are Standard, ECO, Graphics and Video.
After calibrating the settings it is recommended to keep the color temperature at 6500K, gamma up to 2.2 and brightness around 120 nits while maintaining equilibrium. The image quality improved immediately after calibration. The colors were more realistic, the shadows were more detailed and there were few color bars left.
Power
The overall performance of the Acer Predator XB271HU is super smooth, mainly thanks to the high frame rate panel supported by NVIDIA G-Sync technology. It adjusts the refresh rate of the screen to the current frame rate and synchronizes it to produce a smooth image without interruption. Overclocking the monitor is quite simple and can be done with a single adjustment in the OSD menu.
The monitor has a response time of 4 ms GtG and uses overdrive technology to speed up the pixel transition. The option is called OD in the OSD menu and has three different settings: OFF, Normal and Extreme. For games, the best settings seem to be normal. When it’s out, ghosts are visible in dark games, and in extreme cases it creates a lot of distractions. In the case of an input delay, the measured value was less than 10 ms, increasing the overload in normal mode after switching to extreme mode.
If you are interested in eliminating halo completely, Acer Predator supports XB271HU ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blue), which is included with NVIDIA G-Sync. But the disadvantage is that you can’t combine ULMB or G-Sync. To use the ULMB, disable G-Sync and reduce the update rate to 120 Hz. Connection and power consumption
Like any display with NVIDIA G-Sync, the Acer Predator XB271HU is limited to HDMI (1.4) and DisplayPort (1.2) video inputs. If you want to use the high refresh rate and G-Sync, the HMDI will not work because it cannot work at 144 Hz and 1440p resolution. The only way to connect to your PC is via DisplayPort. The speakers are hardly usable and it is best to connect headphones with a 3.5 mm audio jack. Of the three available USB 3.0 ports, one serves as an uplink port, while the other two can be connected to external devices or hard drives. Temporary disks, such as memory cards or an SD card reader, can be connected to the USB 3.0 ports on the side, as everything you connect comes out.
