With its Ryzen processors, AMD is once again making a quantum leap in performance, with numerous improvements in processor design, IPC and more.

In this article we look at where the new Ryzen 9 5900X and 5950X are in the consumer market and what the expectations are for gaming performance and rendering with these new processors.

Prices and specifications

Travel 9 5900X Price 799USD

This 16-core, 32-wire Ryzen processor has a base frequency of 3.4 GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.9 GHz, which can even be higher than 5.0 GHz for a single core with perfect cooling and plenty of thermal space. It also supports the Ryzen 9 3950X’s 105W TDP, which is impressive because this processor tends to run at a much higher rate in transactional situations. This is a new standard for enthusiastic users that brings a lot of performance off the beaten track.

Ryzen 9 5950X Price $549

Another amateur-class processor, the Ryzen 9 5900X, offers 12 core/12 threads with a 3.7 GHz base frequency and 4.8 GHz gain. He has the same PET scan as the 5950X.

New central Zen 3 pattern

The Ryzen 5000 Series uses a new chip design to increase productivity and efficiency. Instead of the two quad-core complexes that the Ryzen 3000 series had, the recycled structure has an eight-core complex. This design gives each kernel access to the full 32 MB L3 cache in a single array. This reduces the memory access delay in this window from 16 to 32 MB and simplifies data exchange between the kernel and the kernel on the chip.

According to Anandtech’s article (which explains the nature of deep diving), one of the key benefits of the new design is numerous upgrades that increase CPU performance by 19% per hour, making the Ryzen 9 5900X and 5950X the best game processor on the market today.

We carried out a number of basic tests that gave synthetic performance values both in the games and in the workload display. This may not translate into real performance expectations, but it should give us a comprehensive picture of the condition of these two Ryzen 9 processors.

Cinebench R20

We decided to use the Cinebench R20 benchmark to evaluate CPU performance, because it gives a good estimate of CPU performance and the delta between the different SKUs.

Since we have limited access to suitable hardware and little time to test, we hope to go back and take a closer look at the performance of each processor.

As you can see from the statistics of the Cinebench R20 on single-core processors, the Ryzen 9 5900X and 5950X both destroy the previous generation Intel i9-9900K, even though it was overclocked at 5.1 GHz. This shows that clock frequencies are not everything, and that there is a lot of technology to integrate such a single-wire power into a 7 nm chip with many processor cores.

In the Cinebench R20 multi-core test, AMD Ryzen always took the lead, but this time AMD Ryzen shredded every other consumer processor in our data. We mean it when we say a lot of things, because the dots are there! This shows the potential performance expected from both processors in rendering and encoding workloads that any modern content maker can leverage.

Playing ability

As mentioned above, we had limited access to test equipment and limited time to perform the test. We therefore limit our data to a more synthetic result, which we hope will come back and allow a more in-depth analysis of performance.

We tested the games in 1080p and 720p mode to remove possible limitations in graphics processing, which resulted in a more synthetic output load than in the actual performance scenario. However, this will give us an idea of what to expect in CPU-based games.

Based on these limited tests, both processors looked very impressive in some 1080p games. Unfortunately, we are in the process of restoring a new reference CPU database and hope to add more performance indicators to the tables. However, it is expected that performance in races will be at the highest level, as the performance of both Ryzen processors has been excellent.

Processor hourly speed, power and temperature

Using the intensive rendering tests of the Blender Open Data processor we were able to get a good picture of the behavior of the processor in terms of clock speed, power consumption and temperature. All this is recorded with the measured values of the HWInfo64 sensor.

In the entire core, the Ryzen 9 5950X stays within a respectable 4.0 GHz range, while the 5900X goes slightly higher in the 4.2-4.3 GHz range.

At the same load, both processors remain within the TDP power of 105 W, while the CPU voltage is kept within reasonable limits.

Final reflection

The results so far have been very impressive and I can confirm that other reviewers say that if you want the best, AMD will deliver it.

AMD sets a new standard for PC consumers, allowing end users with Ryzen to enjoy more cores and superior performance. I won’t settle for less. The year 2020 has come at a time when, if you want the best and the biggest, you have to buy the Resurrected Drama.
