To watch your favorite movies and shows, you can use the Amazon Fire TV Stick, which is one of the best options on the market.
The best part is that it is very portable, you can throw it in your bag and go to your favorite place. The Amazon Fire TV Stick makes it possible to stream to any TV equipped with an HDMI port.
We know you bring a laptop with you on every trip. Maybe you want to stream a video.
But is it possible to stream video to a laptop with the Amazon Fire TV Stick?
At first sight it seems possible, but it’s not that simple.
In this article we will see why it is difficult to use the Amazon Fire TV stick on a laptop and not on a TV. We will also look at some hacks you can use to make it easy to use on your laptop.
Why is it difficult to stream video to a laptop with the Amazon Fire TV Stick?
As mentioned above, the Amazon Fire TV Stick uses HDMI to connect to your TV.
You’re probably thinking: Laptops also have an HDMI port, so what’s the problem?
As you continue, you will learn that there are two types of HDMI connections, HDMI input and HDMI output.
The Amazon Fire TV Stick is a broadcast device, which means it has an HDMI output terminal. On the other hand, your laptop’s HDMI port is also an HDMI output. However, neither device has an HDMI input port.
In short, both the Amazon Fire TV stick and the laptop send their signals to external sources (or displays), and they don’t receive them.
For this reason you cannot use the Amazon Fire TV stick directly with your laptop. However, there are two other options you can use, but neither method is cheap.
Method 1: Elgato HD60 S and ViewHD HDMI splitter
Before you go any further, make sure you have a powerful laptop, because light weights cannot withstand the cut.
If you z. B. have a Macbook, it must run on Sierra or higher, on a Windows PC it must run on Windows 10 64-bit. Then you need a quad-core processor i-5-4xxx or higher and a graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX600 or higher). Finally, it should have a USB 3.0 port.
When you’ve met all the above conditions, you’re ready to go.
The Elgato HD60 S receives an unencrypted HDMI video signal and can be transferred via USB-C to a laptop.
The Amazon Fire Stick sends HDMI signals with HDCP (encryption protocol). HDCP is used to prevent anyone from copying or stealing digital content while it is being broadcast.
Now the problem is that the Elgato HD60 S only works with unencrypted signals, so you need a device that can decipher HDMI signals.
For this reason, you must use the ViewHD HDMI Splitter with the Elgato HD60 S.
The ViewHD HDMI splitter is used to remove HDCP encryption by transmitting HDMI signals.
Let’s see how the whole process works:
The Amazon Fire Stick sends an encrypted HDMI signal to the ViewHD HDMI splitter. The splitter receives this signal and makes it unencrypted. The signal is then streamed by the Elgato HD60 S streaming software through your laptop’s USB 3.0 port. And finally, you can watch the video on the screen.
Before committing to the use of this method, we would like to make it clear that there is no guarantee that it will work.
Method 2: Laptop with HDMI input
As already mentioned, the laptop only has one HDMI output port. Although some laptops provide HDMI input and output ports.
One of these laptops is the Alienware M17xR4. However, it was published in 2012, so you can guess how current it is.
How do I switch from my laptop to my Amazon Fire Card?
You can also use the Amazon Fire Stick to stream movies and TV shows from your laptop to your TV.
First make sure you have the following:
- The Amazon torch is connected to the TV.
